Spindle reads the health data every drive keeps about itself and turns it into a plain verdict: healthy, watch, or back up now, with the reason in one sentence.
What it does
- Checks every drive once an hour, and at start-up, from a background service.
- Hard disks and SATA SSDs: reallocated, pending and uncorrectable sectors, cable (CRC) errors, temperature, power-on time.
- NVMe SSDs: life used, available spare, media errors, unsafe shutdowns, total data written.
- Charts over time for temperature, the failure-predicting counters and SSD wear, kept permanently.
- Free space per volume, with an estimate of when it fills up.
- Windows notifications when a counter rises, a verdict changes, a drive runs hot or a volume runs low.
- CSV export and a one-page PDF report per drive. Light and dark mode.
Good to know
- Spindle only shows what a drive itself reports. Drives behind some USB enclosures and RAID controllers report nothing, and are shown as not readable rather than guessed at.
- A healthy verdict is not a guarantee: drives can fail without warning, so keep backups either way.
